Frequently Asked Questions
DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers are printed designs that are applied to garments using a heat press. The artwork is printed onto a special transfer film using professional inks and adhesive powder. After printing, the transfer can be pressed onto many types of fabrics including cotton, polyester, and blends. Unlike vinyl, DTF transfers allow full-color designs with gradients, small details, and multiple colors without weeding. Once pressed correctly, the transfer bonds to the fabric and becomes part of the garment decoration. This makes DTF a reliable option for custom apparel, clothing brands, uniforms, and promotional merchandise.
A gang sheet is a single print sheet that contains multiple designs arranged together. Instead of printing each design individually, you can place several designs, logos, or sizes on one sheet. This helps maximize the printable area and reduce production cost. Gang sheets are commonly used by clothing brands and print shops that need multiple designs or multiple sizes of the same design. When preparing a gang sheet, designs should already be sized correctly and spaced properly. The sheet will be printed exactly as submitted, so the layout you upload is the layout that will be printed.
For best printing results, artwork should be uploaded as PNG files with transparent backgrounds. PNG files preserve transparency and prevent unwanted background colors from printing. Artwork should be created at 300 DPI resolution and sized exactly how you want it printed on the garment. Files with low resolution, incorrect sizing, or visible backgrounds may affect the final print quality. Before uploading, it is recommended to review your design and confirm that all elements appear sharp and properly positioned.
Artwork should always be created at 300 DPI at the final print size. DPI stands for dots per inch and determines the sharpness of the printed design. For example, if you want a design printed at 10 inches wide, the file should be created at 10 inches wide at 300 DPI. Low-resolution images may appear blurry or pixelated when printed and cannot be corrected during production. High-resolution artwork ensures that small details, lines, and text print cleanly and clearly.
DTF transfers are compatible with many common garment materials used in apparel printing. They can be applied to cotton, polyester, cotton/poly blends, and many performance fabrics. This versatility makes DTF a practical option for t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, workwear, tote bags, and other fabric products. Because the transfer includes its own adhesive layer, it can bond effectively to many fabrics without the limitations of other decoration methods.
Standard pressing instructions for DTF transfers are 300–320°F for 10–15 seconds with medium to firm pressure. Begin by pre-pressing the garment for a few seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Place the transfer in the desired position and press for the recommended time and temperature. After pressing, allow the transfer to cool before peeling the film. Once the film is removed, cover the design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for about 5 seconds to complete the finish.
